System Overview

Wisense is a complete wireless sensor network platform that supports the deployment of low-powered distributed networks of wireless sensors for real time remote monitoring and control of industrial, commercial and environmental applications. Based on ad-hoc wireless sensor technology, Wisense applications can scale to hundreds of nodes deployed both in outdoor and indoor environments with increased robustness to harsh environmental conditions. Wisense offers a cost-effective cable-free and scalable solution which can be easily integrated to monitor excising systems and processes. The system supports a wide range of existing analogue and digital sensors and is used to measure a vast amount of parameters such as temperature, pressure, wind speed and direction, rainfall, light, motion, GPS coordinates, humidity, soil moisture, turbidity, acceleration, strain and vibration.

Wisense consist of five subsystems namely the Wireless Sensor Nodes, the Wisense Gateway and Data Logger, the Secure Data Storage Server, the Dataview Remote Monitoring Web-platform and the Automatic Notification and Alert system.

01’ WIRELESS SENSOR NODES

Wisense low-powered wireless sensors nodes operating at 2.4GHz or 868MHz frequency bands support multi-hop, ad-hoc, mesh networking for reliable, scalable self-configuring and self-healing communication.

02’ WISENSE GATEWAY AND DATA LOGGER

The Wisense gateway and data logger is an ultra compact powerful embedded system which supports the wireless aggregation of the sensor network data, the storage of the data in a local database and the transmission of the data to the secure remote storage server. The Gateway which communicates with the remote server via GSM, GPRS, 3G, Ethernet or Wifi links is highly versatile and can be easily deployed in indoor or outdoor applications The system’s specifications support deployments in completely isolated remote locations under extreme environmental conditions.

03’ SECURE REMOTE DATA STORAGE SERVER

The Wisense gateway and data logger can be programmed to transmit the collected data to a secure remote data server for backup but also for allowing real-time monitoring of data via a standard web browser. The system support programmable storage server database update rates for minimizing operational cost and power consumption.


04’ DATAVIEW REMOTE MONITORING WEB-PLATFORM

The Dataview Remote Monitoring Web-Platform provides a fully customisable interface to the users for controlling their deployments and accessing their data in real time. The Dataview platform is a web-based application which can be accessed through any PC equipped with a web browser, thus allowing the users to monitor their systems and processes virtually from anywhere.

05’ USER DEFINED NOTIFICATIONS AND ALERTS

The Notifications and Alerts Wisense feature provides clients with the capability to establish alert thresholds according to desired operation scenarios of sensors and to specify alert notification tMS text messages and emails. Alerts may be sent to any email-enabled desktop computer or mobile phone. The user can also set-up periodic information messages to report on the health and performance of the sensor network and the values of vital parameters.
